About Ibiza
Ibiza is the island closest to the Spanish mainland. Founded as Ibosim
by the Carthaginians in the middle of the 7th century BC, Eivissa
(Ibiza City) developed a flourishing economy, based on the export of
salt, ceramics, glassware and agricultural products. Testimony of this
prosperity are the Ibizan coins found throughout the Mediterranean.
But if Ibiza had a flourishing ancient past, its present is no less
prosperous. For some 20 years it has been a mecca for jet-setters and
trendy young travellers in search of not only sun, sand and surf but
of a highly sophisticated nightlife, a nightlife often beginning in
fashionable bars near the port and ending up near dawn in some of the
world's most exotic discotheques.
