About La Rochelle
La Rochelle, 70 kms from RENNES (Rennes-Paris : 2 hours by high-speed train -
motorway A11 Oceane : 3 hours), has lovely sandy beaches, and miles of
seaside promenades amidst flowers and palm trees.
The many islands and islets along the coast are a pleasant sight,
and make ideal destinations for short sailing trips. A little further away
(1 hour by boat or 15 minutes by plane), there are the CHANNEL ISLANDS with
their unique atmosphere.
The RANCE is one of the prettiest rivers in Brittany and offers plenty of
opportunity for river excursions. The wonderfully well-preserved medieval
town of DINAN would alone make the trip worthwhile. SAINT-MALO (only 2 kms
as the crow flies), the corsair city, is linked to La Rochelle by the Rance Tidal
Power Station.
The La Rochelle area has something to offer everyone: many types of sport, great
history and wonderful natural beauty.
